MEGABRAIN SPEAKS ON SA's MOST EXCITING BEEF!!

The AKA vs. L-tido beef has brought some vibe and life into to SA's hip hop. It is arguably the most talked about beef in the history of SA hip hop. The beef merely started out as AKA decided to update his Facebook status by voicing his opinion on L-tido's new track and then BOOM BOOM POW- SA's biggest beef was born. In case you missed the status update by the " Mistakes" rapper, this is exactly what he wrote:

"*Look, i respect Maggz, L.E.S and Tido but that joint I heard on the HOT 99 this week must of been the WORST song i have ever heard from any of them! How you gonna rep "Joburg City" when u sound like some American Knock-offs? Come on guys......"

The status update resulted in 71 comments, most probably the most comments that AKA has ever had since starting a Facebook account. This was crazy. Even Sean Pages and Vigi were seen commenting.

As a hip hop head from Capcity Rapcity, I do approve of the beef. Beefing is part if the hip hop culture. Beef has a special place in the heart of hip hop. But then let me school you cats on what I think are the requirements and rules that hiphoppas should abide by when such happens.

1)Principle 12 of the Hip Hop Principles states that "Hiphop Kulture does not intentionally or voluntarily participate in any form of hate, deceit, prejudice or theft at any time. At no time shall Hiphop Kulture engage in any violent war within itself. Those who intentionally violate the principles of this Declaration of Peace or intentionally reject its advice, forfeit by their own actions the protections set forth herein."Just to make myself free, that's not how I spell culture, the Hip Hop Principles banner spells it like that and I can't change it. I won't elaborate on this issue, I believe that the words were clearly set out for everybody to understand.

2) Beef is only good if at least one artist/camp benefits... whether in improved album sales, exposure or endorsements. I suggest that both artists just use the platform to show South Africa that they can indeed make great music.

3) I have also seen that when beefs get squashed, the artists involved actually make great and better music together. For example, Nas and Jigga had beef, and now they make great music together, better than what they did before the beef. Ludacris and T.I also had beef, but the songs Top of the world and Wish you would are one of the best tracks I've heard from the artists. But then are we going to see this beef being squashed??
4) People were also asking if the Fassie camp can also join in on the beef and diss AKA. Well, I already think that they are part of this whole thing already. In the diss track by AKA, he talks about L-tido( duh!), DaLes, Bongani and the Glitz gang. There ain't no rule that prohibits the camp to gang up on the fella.

Hopefully this beef will be squashed soon, but for now sit back and enjoy with your favourite salads.

L'vovo vs. Jay Z- Who is more of a gangster!!

LMAO... One of SA's best and influential kwaito star's album has been pulled of the shelves. L'vovo Derrango's latest project, The Heavyweight, has been suspended, or maybe even expelled from Music Stores for apparently ripping off Jigga's American Gangster cd cover.

It is said that Jay's local record label, Universal Music, sent Derrango's record label an email complaining that "L'vovo's sleeve resembles that of Jay Z". hmmm... I guess that when creativity lacks, you just gotta jack some ideas from the real heavyweights. But seriously mr Derrango... didn't you think that we will notice. lmao... check this out fellas!!

And then check Jay Z's sleeve of American Gangster:

Yeah... you made my year Derrango. Hopefully your album comes back to the shelves before the application for nominations for the SAMA's close.
But it damn seems like L'vovo ain't the only one ripping cd sleeves. Jigga's protege and artists, Rihanna, is also being accused of such. But I ain't really convinced with this one.

Back in 1998, there was a compilation CD put out by Extreme Championship Wrestling. The album included songs by Motorhead and Megadeth and its cover looked suspiciously similar to the cover of pop singer Rihanna’s new record, Rated R. In fact, the two covers look so alike that professional wrestler Paul Heyman, who owns the rights to the ECW album, has accused Rihanna of hijacking his cover art. Both covers have someone with patches over their eyes, wrapped in barbed wire, with their right arm in the air.

Here is the EWC Extreme Music album cover...
And then comes Rihanna's latest offering album cover.
Uhm.... I don't know. I'll get back to you later ayt!!

TOUR SOUTH AFRICA WITH JUB JUB!!

Ayt, So MTV BASE has just learnt that South African hip hop star, Jub Jub, who brought us hits like Ndikhokhele and Love You Till The End, is looking for a talented and skilled DJ or Emcee who will be tagging along as he embarks on a nationwide album launch tour for “Fresh Air”, his latest offering.

Rare Breed Entertainment and Splakavellis Management are inviting all aspiring DJs and Emcees who are ready to travel SA and share the stage with the former kiddies show presenter. Interested peeps don't have to cut off their legs to be part of this once in a life time opportunity. All you gotta do is email a 2 minute video clip of yourself performing like you on stage to splakavellis.management@gmail.com and cross your fingers that you grab the judges attention.

Entrants should be 18 years or older. Entries close on 27 November 2009.... GOOD LUCK!!

DEEP LEVEL IN THE PLACE AND OF COURSE THEY ROCKING IT!!

If you looking for a South African hip hop album, whether for yourself ,your daughter/son,your grandmother's aunty's nephew or your future ex-girlfriend, how about you get something that is really worth your guap. Ain't we all tired of the same old sound and iesh. First thing before you brush yor teeth on November the 9th...I'd suggest that you go get yourself a copy of Deep Level's debut album.

These former members of Hidden Force(Although they claim Hidden Force wasn't a group but rather a collective of four dope acts), namely Goaza and Lebza, are really on some other tip. They come through just right, production wise and lyrically, yet also maintaining that local flavour. Just like back in 2006 with Hidden Force, they pull up some clever lines that you would have wanted to think of first. I also have to come out with it, that the singles I heard has some futuristic vibe to them. They are brilliant and I can sense the hunger that Deep Level has to take hip hip to another level. K'shubile is their first single, and it had some serious heavy radio rotations on the youth station Yfm. The second single K'Zogo K'Zogozo is currently on some heavy rotation on various radio stations... I L.O.V.E it like TOTALLY DUDE!!!
Managed by Thabiso Khati(HipHop Scholar), they sure will be going places. These boys should brace themselves for a very hectic December, I really would love to see them do their thing on stage. Remember, the album is dropping on Monday the 9th of November. We will also keep ya peeps updated on the album and send you reminders...Imma go get my copy, so LET'S GOOOOOOOO and get our copies, cos K'shubile ntwana!!

Kanye West dead on twitter

Come on ya'll. There seems to be a lot of pollution up in this place, so let's just clear the air.

American rapper and producer Kanye West ain't dead, not yet and hopefully not anytime soon. There is a trend topic on twitter: "RIP Kanye West". Mr West is still alive and we'll be getting more great music from the living legend.

I don't know whether this is some publicity stunt or what, but let's stop it.
LONG LIVE MR WEST!!!

New Boyz Say They're More Than Just Jerkin' Rappers

Hip-hop stars get younger and younger. While current rap legends Jay-Z and Nas were influenced by the likes of Rakim and Big Daddy Kane, the wave after them — such as Young Jeezy and Rick Ross — loved listening to Esco and Jigga coming up. The New Boyz — 17-year-olds Legacy and Ben J — are so young, they said that a major influence was Bow Wow.

"I've been rapping all my life, since I was 8," Legacy said. "I saw a Bow Wow music video, and all them little girls chasing him, and I wanted that lifestyle."

"I've been rapping for a long time too, but that wasn't my priority," Ben J added. "I wanted to go to college and play football. I still want to go to college, San Diego State! But I found out [Legacy] was rapping, and was like, I have to do it. And we've been New Boyz."
Formerly known as the Swagger Boyz, the two friends have been together for just a year (the duo was formed officially July 4, 2008) but are already getting love across the country for bringing the Los Angeles dance style jerkin' to the forefront with their single, "You're a Jerk."
"Jerkin' came from L.A.," Ben explained. "It's an inner-city dance; the teenagers brought it back. They used to breakdance, the Roger Rabbit, but we swagged it out. We got involved in it because we seen it and we liked it."

"People were making jerkin' music, but nobody was like doing anything with it," Legacy said.

"We wanted to make it worldwide. This dance is crazy, and it got potential, so we wanted to make it worldwide. We made a jerkin' song. We made 'You're a Jerk,' which is like a double meaning. Jerkin' is just having a good time, you just grooving. Some people ain't capable of crumping. Their body can't do all that. Everybody can jerk, my grandma be jerkin'. His 4-year-old brother be jerkin'. It's just groovin'. It's positive."

"You're a Jerk" was made at Ben's house, and his mother even contributed to the track. The two laid their vocals in a closet and posted the song and a video of themselves dancing on YouTube.
The track is already so big, you see even Chris Brown jerkin' on the Internet. The pair say that they've become so popular because people see themselves when they look at the New Boyz.
"Honestly, we're not separated from the pack," Legacy surmised. "That's why so many people connect with us, because we're so much like everybody else. We don't try to go places and be flossin' on everybody and be all Hollywood."

But speaking of Hollywood, the teens are gearing up to make a motion picture.
"We've got movies," Ben revealed. "We're about to start a film in August called '818.' We play two of the lead roles. It's basically like a street film, like an L.A. gangster/ police film. We've got our album dropping August 18. We have a mockumentary on jerking. It's about the lifestyle of jerking. We're gonna try to get our whole business situated. We're going to move forward. Success is the point."

"We got our next single called 'Dot Com,' " Legacy said of the next release from their debut album, Skinny Jeans and a Mic. "And 'Tie Me Down.' We do music besides jerkin' music. We were artists before. Now we got jerkin', and they think that's the only thing we got. We're going to surprise a lot of people."

BASE NIGHT!! OHHH...BASE NIGHT!!

Yo the October MTV BASE night this past Friday was off the hook. It was just on another level. Hip hop artists Slikour, Shugasmark and Pysfo killed it on their performances. They set the stage AND the roof on FIRE!!! Kwela Tebza also did some justice to the event... I was really impressed.

I don't lie, so I won't. The djs- Dimplez, Milkshake, C-live, Switch and Biz- helped us dance till the early morning till we wanted more. Some girls had to even take their heels off so that they can shake what their mamas gave them... If you were there, you'll be testimony to this great event. Dj Switch must have been the best, he gave us some good hip hop, took us back with some old school kwaito, old school hip hop and played a mini MJ tribute to the legend...all djs rocked though.

I even spotted some famous faces around. Among them were former LIVE VJ- Andile Ncube, Vuzu tv presenter- Siyabonga Ngwekazi, former Miss SA- Tansey Coetzee, beauty queen and business woman- Uyanda Mbuli, Hype Magazine editor- Mizi Mtshali, golddigger and businesswoman Khanyi Mbau, Muthaland boy Da les and a whole lot lot and lots more.

To round it all up, it was a blast and I will definitely be attending the next BASE NIGHT!! If you think you have been snapped by our photographer, you can claim you pic on our MTV BASE fan page. Till the 6th of November, KEEP IT ROCKING... ROCKERS!!

EMINEM AND APPLE SETTLE
Apple and the music publisher for Eminem have settled a lawsuit over the digital downloading rights to his songs. According to the Associated Press, Em’s publishing company, Eight Mile Style, claimed that its contract with Aftermath Records did not authorize the record label to strike a download deal with Apple and the iTunes service. Eight Mile was seeking millions of dollars, alleging copyright violations on 93 songs, including Eminem's biggest hit, "Lose Yourself." Terms of the deal are confidential. Eminem was not a witness in the case and did not testify

FROM VJ TO RAPPER??

He was appointed MTV's first Arfican VJ in October 2005. He worked his stuff well enough that the YFM management gave him a call to host his own radio show with best friend Siyabonga Ngwekazi... and now the dude has just been featured on the N'veigh's " Get your walking right remix". Sup with him?? Not only is he grabbing dem shawty's attention, but it damn seems like he is more talented than we all think he is. What's next??

When he is on stage rapping his verse, please don't yell "Sizwe" or "Siz", rather yell " ScatterBrain", cos that is his stage name. LOL, according to the free dictionary, "scatterbrain" means " A giddy or thoughtless person; one incapable of concentration or attention". LOL... I ain't commenting.

Anyway, we caught up with him a while back... just after we heard him freestyle for the first time.He has actualy been writing for a minute now and now uses his downtime to produce and write his own music, but doesn't intend on releasing an album very soon. But I can say, he spends a lot of time with peeps like Amu and Selywn, I swear we gon hear something from him very soon.

I should accept and admit, damn... he sounds fresh and got some clever lines to his lyris... I am really impressed. He told me that my boy is whack( Cos I manage an artist), although he ain't never heard him di his thing, so what you say Siz?? MEGABRAIN vs. SCATTERBRAIN, we all know who gon win.

Anyway, I'll be calling my homeboy N'veigh to get the remix playlisted on our music player.

You Need To !! STOP !! Doin' That..Seriously

Yeah, so this is the era of digital camera's and social networkin' sites that allow to upload a ridiculous amount of all the moments one captures with their ever-so-fashinable handheld cameras.

So the idea is to create as many albums as possible so you and your mates can start commentin' and taggin' all em snaps to create unforgettable memories....but there is a serious problem... Everyone and i mean E.V.E.R.Y.O.N.E has this idea that the only thing you can do once the snapper focuses on u is to throw up the infamous "peace sign", it seems like it's become a reflex. No lie, i was once a victim of this, but as time passed i realised that i have 10 fully functional fingers that can throw a variety of combo's to create my own UNIQUE hand sign.

With that, I present to ya'll that "ANTI-PEACE SIGN MOVEMENT". I urge errone to use their imagination, not to follow the masses, make pictures more interestin, dammit u spent 5k plus on that handeld so basically stop the madness..and I'm not crazy lol. im, just being real.

Tis Your Boy

"O"

Dare to use the other (8) fingers.

Rabdom I Know.

IF YOU THOUGHT YOU'VE PARTIED ALL YOU CAN THIS SPRING.... THINK AGAIN...

KHLOE KARDASHIAN FEELS "BLESSED" ABOUT WEDDING

Days after marrying L.A. Lakers star Lamar Odom in Beverly Hills, Khloe Kardashian is sharing her excitement about the wedding with her fans. In a blog post on her site, the reality-TV star is thanking her fans for all their support since the wedding on Sunday.
"I've never been so happy, and I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all the love and support I've received," she wrote. "Thank you to everyone for all of the well wishes. I love you all!!!! I feel truly blessed."
The post also includes photos from the ceremony that are featured in the new issue of OK! magazine, and it's followed by another blog entry in which Kardashian counts down her favorite wedding movies of all time. She lists everything from "The Princess Bride" to "Father of the Bride."
"Getting married or not, I always love wedding movies!" she wrote. "There are so many genres — happy, sad, romantic or funny, I love them all!"
While Khloe's been blogging about her newlywed bliss, sister Kim Kardashian has taken to her blog to quell end rumors that the marriage isn't real. Earlier this week, Odom himself spoke to reporters, asserting that the wedding was legal.
"I really hate all the crazy things I have been hearing regarding their wedding not being real," Kim wrote in a blog entry that also plugs the OK! issue. "That is just crazy and untrue!!! Let Mr. and Mrs Odom enjoy being newlyweds! They are sooo freakin cute together! I love them and am so happy for them!"
Khloe's stepdad, Olympian Bruce Jenner, was on Ryan Seacrest's radio show on Wednesday and said that he was as shocked as everyone else that the pair was marrying after dating for only a month. "Well, I actually found out about it six days before it happened," he told Seacrest. "Needless to say, we were shocked."
Hmmm... I think Imma be Khloe's brother in law, watch this space!!

FIF ADRESSES KANYE AND JAY

Yo I got myself tuned in for the Angie Martinez Radio Show and caught Angie interviewing the American rapper, mogul, author and whara whara whara. he he he, dude can go sideways sometimes, I enjoyed the show.

During the show, while asked about Kanye, he (according to me) assumed that Kanye is gay. I ain't quite sure what's the beef between the two, but we all know there is.

He was also asked about Hov and these are his exact word..." You know how Rock 'n Roll has punk rock?? You know...Hip hop has cool punk. Jay's the coolest punk in hip hop. His presentation makes people decide to say... you know cos he's big, and... and he's take on it is bigger than the actual art form, and he won't actually compete. So there's point where the artist will do things just to create a competition like the battling has always been the part of the culture..."

He later went on to say, adressing the Taylor Swift and Kanye issue at the VMA's: " Kanye wouldn't take a trophy from me, neither Jay-Z, neither one of them... and Lil mama wouldn't jump on a 50cent stage"

Fif was trying to make a point that Jay-Z is becoming more appraochable and has lost the gangster kinda Jay everybody once loved.

On related news, tickets to Fif's next biggest concert, 50Fest, has sold out.
