MTV BASE & DStv CELEBRATE CHANNEL’S FIRST ANNNIVERSARY ON DStv COMPACT WITH TUMI & THE VOLUME, ZAKES BANTWINI, DJ KENZHERO, DJ VIGILANTE, DJ SWITCH, DJ LULO CAFÉ, DJ FRANKY & DJ SPHECTACULAR

Johannesburg, 1 June 2011: To celebrate its first, successful year on DStv Compact anda milestone 3 million MTV Base subscribers on DStv Compact and  DStv Premium, MTV Base (DStv 322) and DStv are taking over Hush for the ultimate anniversary party. Taking place for one night only on Friday 10 June 2011 Brand:New vs Spanking New is taking its name from two of MTV Base’s hottest music programmes, Brand:New and Spanking New.

Brand:New vs Spanking New will see the battle of the music genres as Hip Hop takes on House music in the ultimate face-off, featuring some of SA’s most fantastic hip hop veterans going head to head with the brightest star in the country’s House music scene.

Leading the Hip Hop heroes into the fray will be Tumi & the Volume, fresh from their European tour, and whose video Asinamali has been featuring prominently on the MTV playlist and on MTV Base’s Spanking New, MTV Base’s new music show that premieres a new music video every day of the week at 15.50 CAT.   Sets from DJs Kenzhero, Vigilante and Switch will keep Hip Hop lovers asking for more.

House fans won’t be wasting their time if they go along to catch dance star-on-the-rise Zakes Bantwini – the uber-talented vocalist and dancer behind club bangers “Shake your Bum Bum” and “Clap Your Hands”, and MTV Base’s Brand: New artist for April 2011.  House DJs Lulo Café, Franky and Sphectacular will also be on hand to keep the Hush dancefloor packed ‘til dawn.

To celebrate the occasion, DStv  will be giving away  PVR decoders, that can be used by DStv Compact subscribers to record, rewind, pause live TV and fast-forward recorded programmes.
