The lying down game (also known as planking, or face downs) is an activity, popular in various parts of the world, consisting of lying face down in an unusual or incongruous location. The hands must touch the sides of the body, and having a photograph of the participant taken and posted on the Internet is an integral part of the game. Players compete to find the most unusual and original location in which to play. The location should also be as public as possible, and as many people as possible should be involved.

MTV BASE ADDS GLAMOUR TO THE SPORT OF KINGS AT THE DURBAN JULY

Johannesburg, 23 June 2011: This July, for the first time ever, music channel MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) will be hosting an event at the über-glamorous Vodacom Durban July race, in partnership with DStv Compact and Velti Events & Hospitality.

MTV Base’s ultra-stylish PIMP MY CROWN marquee promises to be the most anticipated and coveted ticket at the annual horse racing extravaganza, taking place on 2 July.


MTV Base’s PIMP MY CROWN will set an imperial new luxury standard for the socialites, fashionistas and celebrities at this year’s race, ruling regally over The Greyville Race Course, which is taking its overall theme this year as A Right Royal Affair.

From the moment guests step onto the red carpet, MTV Base’s PIMP MY CROWN will serve up a welcome fit for royalty. Out-of this-world décor, state-of-the-art sound and lighting displays, top DJs, musicians and entertainers will all be on hand -- not to mention special ‘VIP experience’ areas and luxury bars complete with flare shows and exotic cocktails. Other exciting features will include the lush Royal Lounges, the Glam Cam and a fully Pimped-out beauty salon.


From 10am to 10pm PIMP MY CROWN will serve up MTV Base Music Award 2010 winners Liquideep and Durban’s finest Big NUZ, Durban based Kwaito king Professor as well as Hip Hop leaders Khuli Chana, L Tido and AKA. Durban pop act The Arrows and Joocy will add some more homegrown talent to the PIMP MY CROWN musical mix.


Spinning the hottest sounds around will be leaders of the house scene Euphonik, Oskido, Lulo Café and local hero Tira. Also expect Ami-Lectrix and Funky G on the decks as well as P-Kuttah, Vigilante, Dimples, Switch and J Star playing the coolest Hip Hop and R&B.

MTV Base cameras will be on hand to film all the glamorous, royal action, with MTV VJ Sizwe Dhlomo filming an entire episode of his Wednesday MTV Base show Official African Chart (17:40 CAT) at the luxurious PIMP MY CROWN marquee.


Even when the last horse has passed the post, the party will just keep on rolling, as MTV Base’s PIMP MY CROWN After Party takes over top club, The Bellagio. DJs Lulo Café, Vigilante, Switch, Biz, Biggy C Deon Govender (94.7FM), Neal and Ammeth Shah will keep The Bellagio dance floor alight with a mix of Hip Hop and House grooves.

Taking place for one night only on Friday 10 June 2011 Brand:New vs Spanking New is taking its name from two of MTV Base’s hottest music programmes, Brand:New and Spanking New.

Brand:New vs Spanking New will see the battle of the music genres as Hip Hop takes on House music in the ultimate face-off, featuring some of SA’s most fantastic hip hop veterans going head to head with the brightest star in the country’s House music scene.

Leading the Hip Hop heroes into the fray will be Tumi & the Volume, fresh from their European tour, and whose video Asinamali has been featuring prominently on the MTV playlist and on MTV Base’s Spanking New, MTV Base’s new music show that premieres a new music video every day of the week at 15.50 CAT.   Sets from DJs Kenzhero, Vigilante and Switch will keep Hip Hop lovers asking for more.
