MTV, ZAIN UNVEIL NOMINATIONS FOR MAMA'S 2010
The nominees for the annual poll of young African’s music tastes were announced at a star-studded celebration at De Marquee, Lagos, Nigeria, attended by artists, nominees, celebrities and VIPs including 2Face, Sasha and Mo Cheddah ON 30 October 201 . The nominations were revealed by Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, MTV Networks Africa, Andre Beyers, Chief Marketing Officer, Airtel Group and Rajan Swaroop, CEO, Zain Nigeria.
Nigerian artists scored an impressive 13 nominations including three nominations for duo P-Square (Artist of the Year, Best Group and Best Video), and two nominations each for MAMA 2009 winner 2FACE (Best Male, Artist of the Year), Wande Coal (Best Anglophone, Best Male) and Banky W (Song of the Year, Best Video). Nigerian female artists also rated well with Best Female nods for Nneka and Sasha, and a nomination as Brand:New artist for Mo Cheddah. D’banj, a four-time MAMA winner, received yet another MAMA nomination for Song of the Year for “Fall in Love”.
MAMA 2008 Best Live Performer winners Jozi (South Africa) notched up another ‘nod’ from the MAMA academy with a nomination for Artist of the Year. Six further South African artists were recognised by the MAMA Academy, with nominations for Teargas (Best Group), JR (Song of the Year), Black Coffee (Best Male), Big Nuz (Best Anglophone), Liquideep (Song of the Year) and The Parlotones (Best Video).
Fally Ipupa scored the highest individual number of the nominations with four separate MAMA award nominations. The charismatic artist from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), who is also performing at MAMA 2010, has been nominated for Artist of the Year, Best Male, Best Video and Best Francophone. Barbara Kanam brought the DRC nomination tally to five with a first-time nomination in the Best Female category.
East African artists continued their positive nominations run with five nominations from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Kenyan Gospel crossover artist Daddy Owen is nominated for the first time in the Best Anglophone category while hip hop outfit P-Unit gets a mention for Best Group and Muthoni is recognised in the Brand:New category. In Uganda there is a first time nomination for Radio and Weasle (Best Group) while Tanzania’s Diamond gets his commendation in the Brand:New category.
Following the MAMA success of Samini in 2009, Ghanaian artist Sarkodie gets a first time nomination in the Best Anglophone category.
Four US mega-artists are to fight it out in the Best International category which sees Rihanna representing the gals against Eminem, Drake and Rick Ross in the ultimate urban music face-off.

The hitmaker tweeted, “So my brother told me Kanye is putting out a new song every friday call good Fridays, Swizz got Mondays. KANYE CONTEMPLATED SUICIDE ?!?!?!?
According to the Associated Press, Kanye West may have been riding high during the L-A premiere of his new film, Runaway, but he revealed that there were times when he contemplated suicide. The controversial rapper did not specify when he considered taking his own life but he told the audience right before the screening that he “will not give up on life again.” Ye stated, “There’s so many people that will never get the chance to have their voice heard. I do it for them.” You will be able to watch the rapper’s film debut at 8 PM Eastern on MTV and BET on Saturday.
TIDBIT: After getting his initial artwork banned, MTV News reports ‘Ye has revealed that there will be five different covers for his highly anticipated album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Be sure to grab the physical copy on November 22nd.

The ever-expanding roster for Jay-Z’s Roc Nation has just recruited a new member. Despite negotiations with Lil Wayne’s Cash Money Records, Sean Garrett has announced that he recently signed a deal with Roc Nation/Columbia Records. The Pen, who just leaked the remix for “She Geeked” featuring Busta Rhymes, Ludacris and Twista, will release his debut album early next year!

NE-YO PENS SONGS FOR BIEBER, UNDERWOOD
Billboard.com has learned Ne-Yo is not only putting the finishing touches on his upcoming album, Libra Scale, but he’s also writing for other artists. The “One In A Million” crooner explained that he’s “trying to expand, trying to do it all” by penning songs for pop stars like including Justin Bieber, Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw, Rihanna and Beyonce. Ne-Yo says of the Bieber track that he delivered “tangible records, the kind of records that will grow with [Justin] and allow his fans to grow with him.” The songwriter is also looking to get studio time with Jennifer Hudson and Monica before he releases Libra Scale on November 22nd.

SADE TURNED DOWN JAY-Z COLLABORATION
During an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Sade explained why she declined to work with rap’s biggest superstar, Jay-Z. The reclusive singer stated that she’s “too scared” to work with other artists. The legendary singer revealed, “It's like The Wizard of Oz. They'll find out there's nothing there. As for collaborations, I'm collaborating with the band and do what we do. I see myself as a member of this band who does these songs that we write.” Sade admits you’d be more likely to pay to sample one of her songs.
KANYE WEST ALBUM COVER BANNED
The intended album cover for Kanye West’s My Beautiful Twisted Fantasy LP was reportedly banned. According to XXLMag.com, the controversial image features a naked black man being straddled by a naked white female. ‘Ye was upset that the artwork getting banned and wrote, “In the 70s album covers had actual nudity… It’s so funny that people forget that… Everything has been so commercialized now.” The mogul adds that Nirvana once used a cover with real nudity and couldn’t believe his painting wasn’t acceptable. KANYE TO DROP RUNAWAY FILM ON MTV
This weekend, Kanye West is scheduled to premiere his highly anticipated film, Runaway. The 40-minute long flick marks the rapper’s movie debut and will air at 8 PM ET on MTV and BET on Saturday, October 23rd. Mickey Williams, also know as Mickey Factz was born July 13, 1985. He's a hip hop artist from the Bronx, NY. He is not only a rapper, also a singer, writer, songwriter and producer. He has an element of success to him but not to a heavy degree, he has 7 mixtapes under his belt dating back from 2006 (In Search Of N*E*R*D), to what will be reveiwed today...."I'm Better Than You" and is currently working on his debut album entitled "The Achievement". Well....enough with the background, now down to the matter at hand......THE MIXTAPE!!!
"I'm Better Than You"...the title has quite the eyebrow-raiser. It's 18 track mixtape with features including Fat Joe, Bun B, B.O.B and more. From the first track entitled "Diamond Dust" I was like "It looks like I must Take Him Seriously" with lines like "adjust the hook...call it piracy" and "even the flyest Benz couldn't out-class me". The dude...is talented and has various quirky and catchy punches, the flow keeps one entertained and waiting for that next siiiick punchline. The track "I'm Better Than You" has thee dopest lines for me..."Straight gully, whip game ugly, chick game lovely, kick game Chun-Li". You can already imagine that flow."Split flames have you thinkin' this ain't for me, I'm doin' big thangs you a S**t stain...Huggies". "Prepare for the take over, the weight's over, Steve said i flooded the Net and became Noah"...Wooooo!!!
"Legend"....Siiiick beat which HE produced. "I'm married to the game these rapper's K-Fed tryin' to eat off all I did". Hmmmm...then there is Factz on Drakes "Light Up". I don't think he did that beat justice. You take a beat like that you MUST Mutilate It...Come Now Factz. "Mind Got Blown" featuring B.O.B (he killed the hook by thee by), is just a complete song, easy to listen to, which just takes you to another place and dare I say It...blew my mind. As usual...there has to be the tracks for the ladies and those are "Inerlove" and a melodic song about what EVERY dude hates to be in..."Friend Zone". This track...you must just listen to it and feel it, or not.
There definately more of "I'm Better Than You" you yourself must delve in...all in all the mixtape is bonkers and suggest you download it and have a complete sound that caters for almost every aspect of great music.

Skinny/Bright/Tight Clothes Vs Baggy Clothes
There’s a hip hop civil war going on right now, and it’s between the skinnies and the baggies. This has been brewing for the last year and a half now, and dudes is starting to come out of the woodwork with tracks and videos on both sides. Personally, I could care less how tight or baggy a dude’s clothes are, but this is not about what I think. The lines have been drawn, and no white flags have been raised yet, so this war is going to continue.
I notice that it’s usually younger cats that are rockin the tighter, brighter gear and what have you, and that’s fine. They didn’t grow up in the 80’s with us older dudes, and I think we should allow them a pass to wear all the tight-ass Jordache and Cazelles they want. Some of our most iconic figures in hip hop wore that skinny shit…where’s your diss track for them??
And to all the older dudes still rockin the Boot Camp Click baggy jeans and hoodies, let’s move on. You can’t wait for the 90’s fashion to roll back around in a few years and then be like, “Aha! I told ya’ll!!” You look like you wearin your father’s clothes.
And maybe this is what it’s all about: trying to fit into our older brother’s, father’s or grandfather’s shoes. I know when I pick out an outfit to wear, I think about my dad and all the fashion choices he made when he was my age, and I hope that I can look as cool as he did. He continues to be my inspiration.
So, fellas on both sides of this war, let’s pause for a moment and reflect on the subjects of fashion and trends. We may not all agree that skinnies or baggies are better than the other, but we must find some common ground…and we need to learn to get along, because at the end of the day it’s all about hip hop.
Oh, and to all the baggies out there: before we get back to the mid 90’s, we still have to get through Cross Colours and African medallions. I’m just saying.
How To Sag Your Pants
When it comes to being cool, there are always trends that the popular kids follow. For better or worse, wearing your pants so that they sag is all the rage. But if you don't follow a few tricks of the trade, your pants will end up on the ground and you'll be in a whole host of trouble at school. Here's how to sag your pants.

1. Wear your underwear so that it rides up onto your hips. Since sagging is mostly done by guys, underwear is definitely recommended. Pull your underwear up so that it touches your stomach.
2. Put your baggy pants on. No secret here: One leg at a time like everyone else wears their pants.
3. Slide your pants down so that they rest on the large part of your buttocks. No matter who you are in this world, there is some curve to your butt. It may not be a lot, but it's there. Pull your pants down until they are resting below your waist and on the portion of your butt that sticks out the most.
4. Add a belt on your pants to hold them in place. No matter how cool you think you look at school while wearing pants that sag, it can be a pain to spend the entire day pulling them up. Then they fall down and you have to pull them up again. Wrapping a tight belt around your butt (no longer your waist) will help alleviate that problem.
Xbox 720
Xbox 720 is the pre-announcement accepted name for the next Xbox. Xbox 720 is by no means the name of the next system, nor is it even suggesting that there is a new system in the works even. In my mind, Microsoft has got to be working on the Xbox 720. They are slowly losing console sales and the wii is completely dominating the markets.
With an upgrade like the Xbox 720 there would be a huge boost in the Microsoft stock. The Xbox 720 will have a lot to live up too however. They will need a motion sensing system like the Wii, they need to use Blu-Ray discs, and it needs to be powerful, yet affordable. Something the PS3 was unable to master. Playstation hasn’t even profited off of the PS3 yet. That’s not good.
Why should they update now? Well, personally the Xbox 360 is slowing down. If they came out with the best system they’d dominate the market. They already have the best online gaming system. The Xbox 720 could be a dominant system well into 2015 even. There are some photo shopped ideas of the Xbox 720, but none of them are likely legit.
Believe it or not, new systems are generally not a good thing for the companies. The PS3 loses money for Sony when they sell. They make it back in games hopefully. The Xbox 720 would require such advanced software and components that not only will it cost us a lot to purchase, the Xbox 720 will have to sell well below market value to even be close to being competition with the Wii.
To wait or be the first? That’s a tough decision for Microsoft. It could be the difference between a huge profit or lost money. What do you guys think? Should they come out with the Xbox 720?

According to Rap-Up.com, Drake has unleashed the first serving from him highly-anticipated R&B mixtape, It’s Never Enough. The Young Money stand-out sings on a song called “I Get Lonely Too.” Drizzy told MTV News that the material will include new music and not "all the R&B stuff that recently leaked, that’s not for the tape.” It’s unknown when the project will be released for fans, but in the meantime, you can download the first single today.

Spring Break Suncity
Once again everyone took to the North West for the most anticipated event of the year; I don’t have to say what it was. I know that you know.
The street team arrived on Friday and needless to say the atmosphere was amazing, after getting over the frustration of waiting to drive into the resort that is.
Every sun loving Jo-burger naturally dropped they’re bags and hit the valley of the waves first. The stimirol beach party was the perfect way to start off what was about to be an epic weekend with beautiful young ladies and very scary steroid munching beefy dudes all present in they’re swimwear pieces but we had no idea what was in store for us later that night.
Friday night
Was the best night to have been at SunCity.
The Mtv after party was all a party going burger could ask for and more..
The Superbowl was looking better than some concerts I’ve been to for this party.
They even had Xbox consoles along the wall juuust in case you were craving a game or two in-between.
To everyone that went to the ‘shebeen’ on Friday night. That was probably the worst decision ever made in your party lives .
Saturday
We had to dig into our energy reserves for this day.
Even going down to grab some breakfast at the palace was a task.
The beach party hosted by 5fm..Hey, now that’s how you prep yourself for another heavy night.
Drinks with old and new friends at the beach (you always make friends at SpringBreak) don’t forget the music that makes it all a party, life without DJ’s would be the death of me.
Honestly the 5fm party at the hall of treasures was nice but it just didn’t live up to Friday nights standards as we all expected. Just saying.
With that in mind we thought we’d do a little party hopping and to our shock & amazement, the err good people down at the ‘shebeen’ don’t recognize MTV or 5FM, geez they really are from Rustenburg eh lol.
My take..dont bother yourself with the ‘shebeen’ during SpringBreak ever again..it was nice in 09 but it seems to have gotten real bad.

It was a relaxed day really but still..
You ant keep a jo-burger down..we were up again except this time we bode farewell to most of the crazy souls that took over SunCity and now had a long drive home to negotiate (hope you all got home safe dudes and dudettes).
We spent some time on a dancing machine at the arcade and got owned then we passed by the valley one last time before coming back to J-sec.
It was epic, we loved it and we know you did too. If you missed it this year,,do come next year or you’ll feel left out again because the tagging frenzy on facebook and the twitpics just wont end for this week lol.

Justin Bieber now an actor??????? (This kid is outta hand)
Justin Bieber made his acting debut last week on CSI. He played a troubled kid named “Jason McCann” who is questioned after a bombing at a police officer’s funeral. In the episode, police search for “Jason’s” brother “Alex,” who is found buying bomb-making supplies and is killed after he pulls a gun on the cops. At the end of the episode, another bomb goes off in an abandoned building being investigated. With “Alex” dead, could Bieber’s character “Jason” be keeping the family business alive? You’ll have to wait until the singer stars in another episode this February to find out.

RICK ROSS DENIES SEX TAPE
A 27 minute sex tape with a man who appears to be Rick Ross surfaced online late last week. However, the rapper recently took to his Twitter page to let fans know that it isn’t him. Rozay tweeted, “Just saw the so called sex tape…the n**** had a Louie flag in back pocket but forgot the tattoos...#fail.” ThisIs50.com reported the tape was released from someone close to Ross and was filmed before he became famous. In related news, the emcee is already focusing on recording the follow-up to Teflon Don.

LUPE FANS TO PROTEST FOR LASERS LP
Rap-Up.com reports Lupe Fiasco fans are looking to organize a Fiasco Friday protest if the rapper’s third album, Lasers, doesn’t get a release date. The disc has been completed since 2009, but Atlantic Records are yet to give it the green light. Lupe followers say if Lasers doesn’t get a launch date before October 15th, then a protest will ensue. Interestingly enough, the “Kick Push” emcee tweeted: “FiascoFriday huh?!?…well if y’all there…I guess I gotta be there too! Ha! Leggo!”

50 Cent sure has an evil sense of humor. The G-Unit leader and Eminem decided to pull a fast one on Lloyd Banks backstage during the recent Home & Home concert at Yankee Stadium. 50 confronted Banks for allegedly not wanting Slim Shady to record a verse on his upcoming H.F.M. 2 (Hunger for More 2) album. After 16 nights of MTV base Lounge during the World Cup, MTV base (DStv Channel 322) is joining forces with Cell C for a special OMG! themed MTV base Night, taking over ultra-chic INC. in Braamfontein on 10 September to drive buzz around the launch of the new look of Cell C and Blackberry. ATTENTION ANOTHER "TYGA" ON THE LOOSE
Finally, just about 24 hours to the Tyga gig, and the man has finally arrived. The 21 year old rapper tweeted: “Jet lag 22hr flight..#SouthAfrica”.
The Young Money signed rapper will be performing in Johannesburg tomorrow night and then move over to do a gig in Cape Town on Saturday.
Tyga was born Michael Stevenson on November 19, 1989, in Compton, California. He achieved his first recognition opening for Fall Out Boy and Gym Class Heroes during the Young Wild Things Tour in late 2007. His first single, "Coconut Juice," was released in 2008 and was directed by Rage. His first mixtape, No Introduction the Series: April 10, was released online in April. The second part to the series, No Introduction the Series: May 10, was released in May.
LIL WAYNE GETS SUED AGAIN!
According to TheBoomBox.com, Lil Wayne is facing a new lawsuit from his former manager, Melissa Philipian. Interestingly enough, this is the second time Philipian has sued the rap star – previously winning 375-thousand out of court for breach of contract. This time, Weezy is being accused of owing over 500-thousand in commissions, in addition to 15 percent of his total earnings in 2006. Further, Melissa claims that she was “blackballed” by Wayne since she hasn’t been hired by any other celebrities. The rapper is yet to respond to the allegations.
